Journalism is a higher calling. Sure, anyone who’s taken a basic newswriting class and owns an AP stylebook can crank out an ordinary article, nothing special, but that’s not what it’s really about.
Journalism isn’t about the salary, at least it’s not for me.
I love journalism for what it stands for: truth, a necessary watchdog of government, a voice, a responsibility, an honor.
This is not a profession for those seeking employment. It is a professon for those with a passion. And, go figure, that passion will guide any journalist through this job market. They’ve got to want it. They’ve got to live it. They’ve got to breathe it. They’ve got to love it.
